Best sleeveless styles that work with new LDS garments

Yesterday was kind of a big day for members of my church, because the church finally released online and in-stores the new styles of our temple garments.

A lot of my friends got them for the first time yesterday, and then immediately were asking me after to send them links to my favorite tank tops, sleeveless tops and dresses, since I've been wearing the sleeveless style for a few months now.

I've ordered DOZENS of dresses and sleeveless tops. They can be tricky to match with the new sleeveless garments because they have kind of a wider cut, so I wanted to get this post right up for anyone who's really excited about the option of wearing different styles of tops and dresses, without having to do all the trial and error to find gems, like this dress I'm wearing and love so much I have it in 2 colors!

What are LDS (Mormon) garments?

If you're curious about what those even are, this video explains what they mean to us beautifully!

Wait, how did you get the new styles early?

I've had the sleeveless garments since the spring, when they released first in the hottest countries in areas like the Philippines and Africa and South America. My parents are serving a 3-year mission in Urdaneta, Philippines, so my aunt and uncle brought some of the new garments back for me in their carry-on luggage after visiting my parents in the spring.

How the new LDS sleeveless garments fit

For those who are ordering, in case this is helpful! The tops run big in my opinion, the bottoms run small. The smaller your tops are, the more narrow your tank strap will be, and vice versa. I'm wearing a size small top in all of the pictures in this post, since that's what my mom got for me in the Philippines.

The tops really do run big though. On the sizing chart, I would fit an XS but I've tried on and can comfortably wear an XXS (haven't seen or tried on the 3XS) but again, in all of the pictures here, I was wearing a size small. So I think you can look at the sizing chart and easily go down or up 1 size because they're so stretchy and comfortable. One thing to consider with petites is I've heard the armpit is a bit higher. I LOVE that on the regular length, these armpits are finally a bit lower and don't show in most tops that I tried on over them!

How to choose sleeveless tops that work with LDS garments

We are technically called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but for those who are looking for tank tops, sleeveless tops or dresses that work with the new LDS garments, I wanted to make this post easy to track down!

When you're shopping for tops or dresses that work with the new style of garments, I've found that the most tricky part is finding some where the top extends more widely toward the shoulder instead of the collar bone (or out vs in). A LOT of tank tops and even sleeveless shirts cut inward, and that makes them really hard to wear with these new sleeveless garments.

Also, I LOVE the new one piece slip garment. It's AWESOME, but a couple things you will want to know about it: it runs large, so you'll want to size down in this. It also has a very high neck, so you'll want to pair it with dresses that also have a high neck. I love that when I wear this, I don't have any waist lines anymore.

So, what are we wearing with the new slip Gs?

The #1 question I get about the slip garments is “so what are we wearing under them?” And for some women who are trying to combat infections in the underwear region, this should actually really help being able to sleep commando in these slip garments! However, when I wear them with a dress or skirt (the half slip is great for skirts!), I always wear a seamless underwear like these or these.

These tummy smoothing undies are a bit of a splurge but they are my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE. I also love them in this lace option. They smooth everything out without having to wear shapewear, and it just feels like you're wearing really comfy underwear. I always wear them underneath a more fitted dress like the one above and below.

Pro tip for keeping them from sliding around:

My biggest tip (that took me months to figure out!) is that if you wear your bra over the full slip or tank garment, instead of under, it stays in place much better. A lot of times I'd get frustrated because when I was at home getting dressed, I'd try on a top or a dress and the new garments would fit perfectly under, but then once I was out and about, the edge would start popping out. It's much easier to keep them in place if your bra strap is securing/holding your garment in place.

My favorite sleeveless dresses for LDS garments

Okay let's jump into favorites, finally! This is my very favorite sleeveless dress, because it's SO versatile, can be dressed up or down, and is so comfy it feels like workout clothes, is this dress. It goes really well with the full slip! I have it in black and brown – it's what I'm wearing in the first 3 outfit photos in this post!

Next if you're looking for a more dressy dress, the type you can wear to a nicer outing and feel really put-together, this brand has been my favorite from Nordstrom for that type of dress. All of her sleeveless dresses have fitted me perfectly and the sleeveless cuts of the dresses are all designed in a way that works perfectly with the sleeveless garments.

And this exact cream dress that I LOVE SO MUCH is now on sale for $35!!! It's a linen blend so it has the look of linen but doesn't wrinkle. At this price, this one will go FAST.

Here's another one from her that I have and love, worn in this reel:

I wore the dress below to the Amazon Creator Summit recently and got so many compliments! It fits really nicely, has a cowl neck, comes in A TON of colors (22 I just counted!), and is a total steal at around $50 (price varies a couple dollars depending on size and color). The velvet is so perfect for all your upcoming winter events too!

Here's another amazon sleeveless dress I adore so much that I wore it in my family pictures this year! This one is really lightweight so it's great for a tropical vacation or in hot weather.

My favorite sleeveless tops and tank tops to layer with the new LDS garments

After trying many (and I mean MANY) sleeveless tops and tank tops, I have a few that I absolutely LOVE that work with the new garment tops. Here are some of my go-tos!

I feel like nobody talks about this top from Anthropologie but it's for sure at the top of my list of faves! I own it in a few colors. The cut of the arm opening is perfect, even for wider straps in the sleeveless tops. It's not as stretchy as some of the Amazon tops, and it's a bit more of a cropped length. I like both of those things personally!

This is another one of my very favorite sleeveless tops! The tiny buttons are super on-trend this year, and it kind of makes the top fun and different. Comes in 5 different colors too!

And then here are some more dressy sleeveless tops! This faux leather one is SO fun and great to pair with a satin skirt like the one I wore here.

This sleeveless pink power suit is what my working girl dreams were made of! I wore it with this camisole underneath, and these buckle sandals.

This is for sure the most popular style of tank that works over the new garments that I've seen other influencer friends recommend. I love this style too! It's very relaxed though, so I like it for hanging out, layering for travel, a casual outfit etc. But it does perfectly cover the garment top, at least up to size small which is what I'm wearing here.

This mock neck top is more on the dressier side, BUT it's extremely stretchy and comfy!! If you need a hybrid of looking classy and feeling like pajamas, this top is it.

This top is super similar to the dress at the very top of this post, but in a top! It has really nice side ruching that’s super flattering, and it’s really comfy but has perfect shoulder coverage to match up with the new garments.

Ruched side top | Adidas shoes

This sleeveless top is really fun! It's very much full coverage on the shoulder so it should work for any size of the new sleeveless garments. I love that it has this pleated, loose fit and I like to pair it with more fitted jeans like these boot cut jeans.

Now if you really want a pretty, blousey top, I absolutely love this one. It's especially cute tucked in to jeans or dress pants.

Pink satin top | Jeans

If you love a good sweater top, this will make you so happy! It has the perfect sleeveless cut and looks very Ralph Lauren, but at Amazon pricing. It also has almost a silky-soft feeling? LOVE!

I hope this guide helps you find some sleeveless tops and dresses you love! Let me know if you have any other questions on fit or any of these finds.
